Large mucoid colonies of Streptococcus pneumoniae (M form) on sheep blood agar. Throat swab. Pneumococcus is accompanied with other common oropharyngeal bacterial flora: alpha-streptococci, gamma-streptococci and Neisseria spp. (non-hemolytic).

Cultivated on Columbia sheep blood agar aerobically, 5% carbon dioxide, 24 hours.
